There are more than a few gutter hanger types available in Calgary, and making the right choice can be quite confusing. We call our gutter brackets our secret sauce, because they complete our projects while being almost invisible.
We discuss some of the types that may be on offer by others, when you call for quotes for your eavestrough project. It’s well worth considering your choices carefully, because hangers are what keep your gutters up, and flowing smoothly.
Seven Gutter Hangers on the Market
- Hangers Attached to Fascias – These are a popular solution, because they are easy to install. Variations are available to suit both round and k-type gutters. They span half the gutter’s width, and anchor through to the roof timbers.
- Concealed Gutter Hanger Types – Concealed hangers are invisible from the ground, because they attach to the center of the gutter trough. They make a great complement for seamless eavestroughs, and enhance the smooth flow.
- Spike and Tube Systems – Spikes and ferrules involve tubes from the front to the rear of the eavestrough at the top, and long screws driven through both to secure them to the roof timbers. This simplistic approach may cause leaks.
- Visible Straps and Brackets – These types of gutter hangers do not penetrate the gutter, unlike the previous ones. A series of u-shaped brackets support the eavestrough system, and attach to the fascias with straps.
- Hangers Attached to the Roof Underlay – This system bypasses the fascias and roof timbers, and attaches to the roof underlay via a flat bracket beneath the shingles. This approach is rock-solid, but it does need experienced hands.
- T-Strap Eavestrough Hangers – These use concealed hangers unlike the previous option. One end of the strap attaches to the gutter, while the other fastens securely to the roof underlay. This design should be invisible from below.
- Wrap-Around Gutter Hangers – The seventh type of gutter hanger on the market holds the eavestrough from below, using a strap attached beneath the roof covering. This is a convenient solution for sloping roofs without overhangs.
