It’s quite easy to be confused by technical jargon when we are new to a game. In fact, we could almost imagine the speaker is trying to baffle us. We go to the opposite extreme at Valiant Exteriors because we believe in being transparent. So without further delay what are attic baffles then?
What’s in a Name, What Are Baffles Exactly?
Baffles are vanes and panels that either direct, or obstruct the flow of liquids and gases in science. If you are thinking back to a school pal who took the baffles out their motorcycle exhaust to make it sound smoother or faster, you are on the right track.
However, nowadays you are equally likely to encounter baffles in loudspeakers. These are the covers on their fronts that support tweeters, woofers and sub-woofers. Their job is preventing sound from the front and the back of the drivers colliding, and causing noise interference. So if you like they control the flow of sound.
The Attic Baffles Ventilating Your Roof
Attic baffles, on the other hand help circulate fresh air through roof space. Because you may not be able to this naturally, unless you have dormer windows set into the slope. Roofers fit vents in soffits on the underside of eaves to encourage fresh air to enter.
However, we still need a way to circulate the air to the four corners of the attic. Because of we don’t churn the air around we could face an accumulation of moisture. And that could lead to mold, and even deterioration of ceilings and roof timbers.
Can You See Where the Discussion is Headed?
If you are thinking air … gas … baffle … circulate … you are ahead of the game. Because that’s exactly what attic baffles are for. In a nutshell they are chutes funneling air from the soffit vents high up into the roof space, from where it exits out the vents drawing humidity with it.
Attic baffles are really simple when you glance up to our picture. In that illustration, the baffles are doing two smart things well. In the first instance, they are funneling the air from the soffit vents upwards. While in the second they are insulating the attic from the cold winter air outside.
